Seychelles signs seven aviation agreements to improve global air connectivity
Seychelles has signed aviation agreements with seven countries during the International Civil Aviation Negotiating event (ICAN-2024) in Kuala Lumpur, as part of efforts to enhance its global air connectivity.
The agreements, signed with Germany, Eswatini, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Turkey, India and the United Arab Emirates, were secured during negotiations with 17 countries at the October event.
Transport Minister Antony Derjacques announced that India's Indigo airline will commence flights to Seychelles from February 2025. The island nation is also in talks with Saudi Arabia's FlyNas and Germany's Lufthansa about potential services.
Gary Albert, CEO of Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority, highlighted plans to address a gap in direct Asian connectivity, with discussions ongoing with Malaysia and China about possible routes.
The delegation also used the visit to study Kuala Lumpur's Subang International Airport for ideas to incorporate into the redevelopment of Seychelles International Airport, whose masterplan was completed earlier this year.
Currently, German airline Condor is the only carrier from that key tourism market serving Seychelles, having resumed operations in September.
