Seychelles extends electronic travel authorisation to sea arrivals
Seychelles has announced that all visitors arriving by sea, including cruise ship passengers and yacht travellers, must now obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before entering the country. Previously, only air passengers were required to have an ETA.
The extension of the requirement is part of enhanced security measures aimed at improving visitor screening while streamlining border crossings. Applications can be submitted up to 30 days before arrival through the official government portal or the Seychelles E-Border mobile app.
The process requires applicants to upload passport details, travel documentation and accommodation confirmations. Processing fees range from €10 for standard 24-hour processing to €70 for expedited 60-minute service.
Travellers can present their approved ETA digitally upon arrival at any Seychelles port of entry. The system mirrors similar digital entry requirements being adopted by other destinations including Kenya, Israel, and the European Union, which launches its own scheme in 2025.
The move comes as Seychelles seeks to better manage growing tourist numbers while maintaining security standards.
