Namibia Ends Visa-Free Access for US, UK and Over 30 Countries

From 1 April 2025, Namibia will revoke visa-free entry for nationals of more than 30 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, and several European nations. The decision, first approved by Namibia’s cabinet in July 2024, is largely attributed to the lack of reciprocal visa arrangements for Namibian passport holders. Affected travellers will now be required to apply online for a visa or obtain one on arrival.
The move marks a significant policy shift, as countries like Germany—Namibia’s largest tourism source market—had previously benefited from visa-free access. The local tourism industry has raised concerns over the potential impact on visitor numbers, particularly from long-haul markets. The US Embassy has advised travellers to apply in advance via Namibia’s online visa portal. The change comes shortly after the inauguration of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and follows a similar visa tightening by the UK in 2023.
