South Africa Launches Fast-Track Digital Travel Approval for Indian Visitors
South Africa has introduced an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system for eligible Indian travellers, allowing them to apply for travel approval entirely online without visiting a visa application centre. Designed for tourism, business and certain visitor trips of up to 90 days, the digital authorisation replaces the traditional visa sticker and is linked directly to the traveller's passport. Applications are expected to be processed within 24 to 48 hours, with travellers receiving a QR code upon approval.
The programme is currently available to holders of ordinary Indian passports entering South Africa through O.R. Tambo International Airport, Cape Town International Airport and Lanseria International Airport, with more ports of entry expected to be added over time. Applicants complete the entire process online by creating an account, submitting passport and travel details, completing a live biometric verification and paying the application fee. While the ETA streamlines the entry process, travellers remain subject to standard immigration checks on arrival.
