Angola Launches New E-Visa Portal as Part of Immigration Digitalisation Drive
Angola has migrated its online visa application process to a new official platform, evisa.ao, replacing the former smevisa.gov.ao portal, which now automatically redirects users to the updated site. Announced by Angola's Ministry of the Interior on 27 August 2026 following a review meeting in Luanda, the platform consolidates account creation, application submission, electronic payment and case tracking into a single digital system. Applications are stated to process within 72 hours, with required documents including a valid passport, yellow fever vaccination certificate, proof of travel and accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds.
A notable change under the new system is the introduction of online fee payment, replacing the previous arrangement where visa fees were settled on arrival at the border. However, the platform's fee schedule page currently displays no amounts, suggesting the portal remains partially under development. The update does not affect the visa exemption introduced in September 2023, under which nationals of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and 98 other countries - later expanded to include the Philippines in October 2025 - remain eligible for visa-free tourist stays of up to 30 days per entry, with a maximum of 90 days per calendar year.
