The Wilderness Trust has launched the Wilderness Impact Challenge, offering a USD100,000 prize to fund innovative solutions for human-wildlife conflict. Focused on the "Protect" pillar of their impact strategy (Educate, Empower, Protect), the challenge seeks projects impacting wildlife areas and surrounding communities in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya, and Rwanda.

The challenge invites global entries for technology development such as early-warning systems and non-lethal deterrents; the design of eco-friendly barriers for crops and livestock; and community-driven conflict resolution and education programs. Judges will select the most impactful project, providing the USD100,000 prize to implement the winning idea. Registrations open December 3, 2024, and close February 28, 2025. Finalists will be announced March 14, 2025, with the winner revealed at the end of March. For further information or to submit entries, contact [email protected].

Wilderness Trust believes current conservation methods are not effective enough and aims to address this issue through the challenge, seeking scalable and sustainable solutions that reimagine entire ecosystems and economies by shifting the focus from single-species protection. This represents a disruptive approach to conservation funding.
