Malawi Airlines has announced plans to introduce new flight routes to three African countries - Mozambique, Rwanda and Uganda. The airline's marketing manager, Only Taulo, stated that fares will be affordable, describing the expansion as "a sign of growth" for the company.

The new destinations include Kigali in Rwanda, as well as Nampula and Beira in Mozambique, with flights to Uganda expected later this year. Dr Lameck Zetu Khonje, Dean of Tourism at Mzuzu University, welcomed the development as "a very good move" for Malawi's tourism industry.

He highlighted Rwanda and Mozambique as hot tourism destinations in Africa, predicting the direct flight links could drive valuable visitor inflows to Malawi from those countries. Dr Khonje emphasised the broader benefits of connecting tourism hotspots across the region.

The expansion by Malawi Airlines is viewed as a positive step that could generate increased foreign exchange revenues, underscoring the important economic role played by the aviation sector.
