Dutch charter airline TUI resumes flights to East Africa, boosting regional tourism
Dutch charter airline TUI has resumed flights to East Africa, marking its return with a Boeing Dreamliner landing at Moi International Airport (MIA) in Mombasa, Kenya, for the first time in six years. This renewed service, which connects Mombasa and Zanzibar, is expected to support the tourism sector’s recovery in Kenya and Tanzania. On the maiden flight, 40% of passengers planned to explore various sites in Kenya, while the rest continued to Zanzibar.
This return reflects improved security and economic stability, following years of interrupted services due to security concerns and COVID-19. Kenyan tourism officials emphasise that this milestone aligns with ongoing tourism recovery efforts, including new campaigns to attract international visitors and increase arrivals along the Kenyan coast. TUI’s bi-weekly flights provide a direct boost to regional tourism, underscoring East Africa’s appeal as a destination for natural and cultural experiences.
