Chinese Tourists Flock to Africa in Record Numbers
Africa is rapidly becoming a top destination for Chinese tourists, drawn by its stunning landscapes, cultural diversity, and unique travel experiences. From February to August 2024, the number of Chinese visitors to Africa surged by 1.2 times compared to the previous year, according to data from Ctrip, a leading Chinese travel platform.
Flight bookings to African destinations nearly doubled during this period, with Egypt and Kenya seeing growth rates of 236% and 167%, respectively. Additionally, Chinese tourists travelling to Egypt increased by 200% between January and August 2024, as reported by LY.com.
Popular activities include witnessing the great animal migration in Kenya and Tanzania, exploring Egypt’s historical sites, and discovering Southern Africa’s natural beauty. Chinese tourists are also staying longer in Africa, with visit durations extending to 14-18 days, allowing them to experience a range of activities such as wild camping and yacht trips.
As tourism ties between China and Africa strengthen, the continent is expected to attract even more Chinese visitors, further boosting tourism and economic exchanges.
