A&K Sanctuary to relocate and redesign Ngorongoro Crater Camp in Tanzania
A&K Sanctuary is set to relocate its Ngorongoro Crater Camp in Tanzania to a new hillside setting within the UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Conservation Area, alongside a complete redesign developed in collaboration with East African studio JPN Interior Design. The repositioned camp will sit on an expansive hillside with sweeping views across the Serengeti plains, approximately 25 minutes from the crater descent road. Ten newly built tented suites will feature polished hardwood floors, king-size beds, spacious ensuite bathrooms and private viewing decks, with 97 per cent of interiors locally made and custom designed, including furniture handcrafted by workshops in Arusha and decorative elements sourced from artisans and social enterprises across East Africa.
The relocation has been guided by a commitment to responsible tourism, with materials from the previous camp repurposed where possible and Maasai community members playing an integral role in construction. Female-led businesses, including Women Craft, whose fair-trade basket collections support more than 600 Tanzanian artisans, have been actively championed throughout the project. The reimagined camp will be available as part of an A&K Tailormade or Small Group Journey, with nightly rates from US$855 per person sharing, inclusive of meals, beverages, game drives, airstrip transfers and emergency medical evacuation. The new Ngorongoro Crater Camp forms part of a broader period of growth for A&K Sanctuary, which also recently opened its Kitirua Plains Lodge in Kenya.
