Uganda Wildlife Authority receives heavy machinery to improve access across national parks

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has taken delivery of 11 pieces of road construction and maintenance machinery as part of the IFPA-CD World Bank Project, with a formal handover ceremony held on 16 June 2026 at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre in Entebbe. The equipment, supplied by M/s Mantrac Uganda Limited and M/s Muhick International Limited, includes three motor graders, four excavators and four tractors with accessories. Four bulldozers are still to be delivered by the end of June 2026. The machinery will be deployed across key conservation areas including Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Kibale National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve.

UWA Executive Director Dr James Musinguzi said the equipment will be critical for opening and maintaining trails, removing invasive plant species and improving access for both conservation management and tourism activities. Enhanced road networks within protected areas are expected to improve operational efficiency and visitor accessibility - a significant consideration for Uganda's growing wildlife tourism sector, which includes high-value experiences such as gorilla trekking at Bwindi and chimpanzee tracking at Kibale. The investment forms part of UWA's broader infrastructure development strategy to strengthen the management and accessibility of Uganda's protected area network.
