In January 2023 Praveen Moman, Founder Volcanoes Safaris, hosted ‘The Future of Gorillas and Chimpanzees in the Albertine Rift’, a panel discussion to mark our 25th anniversary.

Praveen Moman, the founder of Volcanoes Safaris, first went walking near Gahinga in 1966 aged twelve with his father Kuldip Rai Moman.  Over thirty years later, in 1997 he returned to the region to help rebuild gorilla tourism and the following year started to build Mount Gahinga Lodge, the first Volcanoes Safaris lodge.

At the start of a super-busy season, we look forward to welcoming guests to the world renowned Virunga Lodge, the first international lodge to be built near Parc National des Volcans in Rwanda 2004. The property inspired the relaunch of gorilla tourism in Rwanda.

Virunga Lodge celebrates its 15th anniversary! Volcanoes Safaris has been at the forefront of reviving gorilla and chimpanzee tourism in Uganda and Rwanda since 1997. To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Virunga Lodge, plans for re-imagining the property will be unveiled on 18 November 2019.

Volcanoes Lodges have had a fantastic year! So many exciting developments have taken place.  A new video entitled Praveen Moman: Celebrating Gorillas and Communities was launched celebrating twenty years of Volcanoes pioneering gorilla and chimpanzee ecotourism. A new collection of aerial shots highlighting the unique location of each lodge in the dramatic Albertine Rift Valley have been released.

Volcanoes Safaris is proud to announce that the upgrade of Bwindi Lodge is complete! During 2017 the lodge has been progressively renovated and all areas have fully reopened in January 2018. The luxury forest lodge in Bwindi now features a redesigned guest lounge and dining area that bring the feel of the forest into the stylish interiors. A newly designed outdoor terrace gives dramatic views of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The individual bandas, each having their own view of the forest, have been upgraded with luxury new interiors.
