Zimbabwe spotlights community‑led tourism at China’s GTEF
Zimbabwe is participating in the 11th Global Tourism Economy Forum in Harbin, China – concluding today – alongside 30 countries from five continents. Tourism Minister Barbara Rwodzi, attending as Guest of Honour, outlined Zimbabwe’s tourism clusters, including the Heritage‑Based Tourism Strategy that positions communities as custodians of culture, heritage, flora and fauna, under the theme New Quality Productive Forces, Powering the Global Tourism Economy.
Rwodzi highlighted the Rural and Gastronomy Tourism cluster’s farm‑to‑market value chain supplying locally produced food to hotels, restaurants and airlines, supporting jobs and livelihoods. She noted Zimbabwe’s recent hosting of UN Tourism events, including the Tourism Gastronomy Forum, and said the country is expanding its footprint in the Chinese market – aligning with ambitions for a smart, green, connected and sustainable tourism economy.
