Zambia’s Mansa Airport Upgrade Progresses

Zambia has reaffirmed its goal of becoming a key aviation hub in Africa, with upgrades to Mansa Airport progressing under a K740 million partnership between the Zambian government and China Jiangsu International. Speaking at a high-level meeting, Minister of Transport and Logistics Hon. Museba Frank Tayali emphasised the strategic importance of the project, which is being delivered under a 17-month Design and Build model and currently stands at 7% progress.
The development marks another step in Zambia’s longstanding infrastructure cooperation with China, dating back to the TAZARA Railway in the 1960s. Despite delays in funding, work has begun on-site, and the government has pledged to fast-track financial disbursements and environmental approvals. The Mansa upgrade forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen air connectivity across Zambia’s provinces, with the government positioning aviation as a driver for economic growth and regional integration.
