Arusha Airport Set for 24-Hour Operations to Boost Tourism and Passenger Capacity
Arusha Airport is set to begin round-the-clock operations within two weeks, following upgrades to its lighting infrastructure that will enable safe night flights. Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) CEO Engineer Peter Ulanga announced the move, stating that the expanded operating hours will increase the airport's daily passenger capacity from approximately 200 to 300, with key routes serving Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.
The shift to 24-hour operations is primarily aimed at improving connectivity for tourists whose safari schedules bring them into Arusha in the evening, removing the need to overnight before continuing their journeys. ATCL pilots have welcomed the upgraded lighting system, citing improved safety and operational efficiency. The extended hours are also expected to play a significant role during Tanzania's co-hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with Arusha anticipated to receive a substantial influx of domestic and international visitors during the tournament.
