Wakanow Becomes First African Travel Company to Offer Lufthansa Group NDC Content via Direct API

Wakanow, one of Africa's leading travel technology companies, has become the first travel company on the continent to offer Lufthansa Group's New Distribution Capability (NDC) content through a direct API integration. Built on the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) NDC standard, the integration gives customers real-time access to Lufthansa Group's full retail content, including live pricing and availability, enhanced fare options, ancillary products and a more personalised booking experience. Wakanow CEO Adenike Macaulay described the milestone as reflecting "the future of travel retail in Africa," while Group CEO Bayo Adedeji said the achievement is part of a long-term strategy to build "Africa's most advanced travel technology platform" and reduce dependence on legacy distribution channels.

The integration is part of Wakanow's broader programme of direct NDC partnerships with leading international airlines, with additional integrations already in development. For Lufthansa Group, Nigeria remains a strategically important market, with 14 weekly connections operating from Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt to Frankfurt. René Koinzack, Senior Director Sales for Southern & East Africa, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea at Lufthansa Group, said the partnership demonstrates "the power of collaboration in bringing the future of airline retailing to Africa." For the wider travel industry, the development signals a meaningful shift in how airline content is distributed across the continent, with the NDC model enabling richer product information, dynamic pricing and faster access to future airline retail innovations for African travellers.
