In a significant move to enhance wildlife conservation in Uganda, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has gifted six drones to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA). The handover ceremony took place on Tuesday, with UNDP representative Nwanneakolam Vwede-Obahor presenting the unmanned aerial vehicles to Tom Butime, Uganda's Minister of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities.

These state-of-the-art drones are set to revolutionise UWA's conservation strategies by enabling real-time aerial surveillance, improved monitoring of vast and remote areas, and swift response to potential threats. The technology will also aid in tracking animal migration patterns, assessing habitat health, and conducting detailed surveys.

Vwede-Obahor emphasised the UNDP's commitment to protecting Uganda's unique wildlife and natural resources, recognising the tourism sector's crucial role in the country's economic development. Minister Butime expressed gratitude for the donation, acknowledging its potential to significantly impact Uganda's conservation initiatives.

This collaboration between UNDP and UWA marks a pivotal step in leveraging technology for environmental protection, promising to bolster Uganda's efforts in preserving its rich biodiversity and natural heritage.
