Madagascar secures $200 million to modernise transport infrastructure
Madagascar has secured $200 million in financing from the World Bank to modernise its transport infrastructure through a new multimodal logistics project. The investment will focus on upgrading key transport networks across rail, ports and airports, with the aim of improving efficiency, safety and climate resilience along the country’s main economic corridors.
Key components include the rehabilitation of the railway linking the capital Antananarivo to the main port of Toamasina, as well as upgrades to regional ports and airports. The project is expected to enhance connectivity, reduce transport costs and support trade, tourism and broader economic development, benefiting millions of people across the country.
