Etihad Airways Adds Six African Routes via Abu Dhabi
Etihad Airways has announced a major expansion of its Africa network, launching new routes from Abu Dhabi to Accra (Ghana), Asmara (Eritrea), Harare (Zimbabwe), Kinshasa and Lubumbashi (Democratic Republic of the Congo), and Lagos (Nigeria). The move reflects growing demand for air connectivity across the continent, particularly in cargo and trade-linked sectors, and positions Abu Dhabi as a central hub linking Africa with the Middle East, India and Asia.
The expansion complements Etihad's recently deepened partnership with China Eastern Airlines and its strategic joint venture with Ethiopian Airlines, which this month marked 80 years of operations. CEO Antonoaldo Neves noted that demand for connectivity across key African markets is outpacing existing supply, with the new routes designed to serve both passenger travel and freight needs across sectors including manufacturing, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and infrastructure. Etihad Cargo, the largest freighter operator between China and the Middle East, will provide belly-hold capacity across all six new services.
