Last month, Sasaab in northern Kenya had the pleasure of hosting The Long Run’s 15th East African Members’ Meeting.

This February, The Safari Collection partnered with the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Save Giraffes Now (SGN) to rescue a group of Masai Giraffes being threatened by poachers and habitat loss.

We have once again got a helicopter stationed in Samburu, ready to whizz guests off on unbelievable adventures. Through our partners at Tropic Air, the heli is on standby at Sasaab so guests benefit from no repositioning fees.

There’s more than meets the eye to Nairobi’s Giraffe Manor. This boutique lodge has been a breeding centre for endangered Rothschild’s giraffes longer than it’s been a hotel.

After a quiet year, our helicopter pilot is thrilled to have taken to the skies once again in our private helicopter. Stationed between Solio Lodge in Laikipia and Sasaab in Samburu, our heli is ready to transport guests on the most magical adventures to some of Kenya’s wildest destinations.

This Christmas, The Safari Collection wanted to use the power of song to bring together friends, family, past and future guests, however far away from one another we may be. So, with a little help from soloist Edna Ratemo, our very own team sang their hearts out. And, as it turns out, we have quite the in-house choir. Enjoy our festive version of ‘My Land is Kenya’.

2020 has arrived, bringing new dreams, new paths and new promises. As we embark on our journey into a new decade, the climate crisis and the rate of technological developments bring some uncertainty. But one thing is certain: travel will continue to be highly prized as a way to spend quality time with loved ones, disconnect from busy lives and do something that feels good.

This festive season, The Safari Collection have turned their attention away from what is under their Christmas tree, to the tree itself. As more and more people worldwide are wising up to the climate crisis, the significance of trees has been brought into sharper focus than ever before. We cannot live without trees, yet we are destroying the earth’s forests at an alarming rate. Earlier this year, forest fires ravaged the slopes of Mount Kenya, destroying thousands of hectares of forest habitat. The Brazilian Amazon rainforest was also hard hit by wildfires, but even more worryingly, 2019 saw it suffer the worst deforestation in over a decade.

The Safari Collection are thrilled to support an exciting new conservation project working to protect the highly threatened pangolin. These secretive and mysterious nocturnal creatures are covered head to toe in hard keratin scales and are one of the most trafficked mammals in the world. Their meat is eaten as a delicacy in China and Vietnam and their scales are misguidedly used in traditional medicine. Tragically, pangolins are utterly defenceless against the hands of their biggest predators: humans.

Meet the latest addition to The Safari Collection's team, a handsome Eurocopter AS 350 B3 helicopter. Built for low-level cruising, optimum scenic viewing and with its proven superior performance in extreme conditions, it is the best in its field. It comes with five passenger seats and our experienced heli-pilot, Kieran Allen.

Giraffe Manor reopened for the season on 2nd June 2019. Despite being closed, we have been incredibly busy, and we have lots of exciting developments to reveal. Three of the main manor bedrooms have undergone significant renovations. Lynn and Marlon are now charming superior rooms with a balcony or terrace from which you can feed the giraffe. The Karen Blixen Suite now has two large en-suite bedrooms with an adjoining lounge area and a large balcony.

This May, The Safari Collection will be hosting a Wilderness Wellness Safari that is set to Nourish your body, soothe your soul and help you reconnect with nature. Experience the diversity of Kenya’s wild landscapes and the incredible and variant wildlife as you journey to three diversely stunning safari locations. Game drive through the iconic Nairobi National Park – the oldest park in Africa – and photograph many of the ‘big five’ against the skyline of Kenya’s bustling capital. Journey to the rugged north where you will glimpse Samburu life and indulge in four days of nourishment for the mind and body through a specially designed wellness programme.
