Last month, Sasaab in northern Kenya had the pleasure of hosting The Long Run’s 15th East African Members’ Meeting.

The Safari Collection team always enjoy coming together each December to dust off their Santa hats and join together in a festive singalong. This year, we celebrate the wonder of Africa through our Kenyan version of the song Paradise. We feel blessed to live in a magical land of safari. From the enchanting wildlife to the spectacular scenery, we often feel like we live in a paradise.

The Siruai Mobile Camp will be open again between 25 April 2022 - 15 October 2022 and 16 December 2022 - 15 January 2023.

There’s more than meets the eye to Nairobi’s Giraffe Manor. This boutique lodge has been a breeding centre for endangered Rothschild’s giraffes longer than it’s been a hotel.

Tucked away in a wild, quiet corner of Kenya’s mighty Masai Mara, The Safari Collection’s Sala’s Camp is privileged to witness one of the greatest shows on earth. Sala’s is one of the first camps in the Mara to experience the legendary annual migration of wildebeest, which thunders by from June to September each year. Over 1.5 million wildebeest, zebra and antelope migrate clockwise around the Serengeti-Masai Mara ecosystem, travelling 800 kilometres and taking in two different countries as they court, mate, give birth and die along the way.

We have once again got a helicopter stationed in Samburu, ready to whizz guests off on unbelievable adventures. Through our partners at Tropic Air, the heli is on standby at Sasaab so guests benefit from no repositioning fees.

Our brand-new pool, spa and dayroom facility at Giraffe Manor is about to open!

Giraffe Manor reopened for the season on 2nd June 2019. Despite being closed, we have been incredibly busy, and we have lots of exciting developments to reveal. Three of the main manor bedrooms have undergone significant renovations. Lynn and Marlon are now charming superior rooms with a balcony or terrace from which you can feed the giraffe. The Karen Blixen Suite now has two large en-suite bedrooms with an adjoining lounge area and a large balcony.

The Safari Collection are thrilled to support an exciting new conservation project working to protect the highly threatened pangolin. These secretive and mysterious nocturnal creatures are covered head to toe in hard keratin scales and are one of the most trafficked mammals in the world. Their meat is eaten as a delicacy in China and Vietnam and their scales are misguidedly used in traditional medicine. Tragically, pangolins are utterly defenceless against the hands of their biggest predators: humans.

At The Safari Collection, we believe that children are the future guardians of our planet. Kenya’s kids will one day be entrusted with the protection and preservation of the country’s wilderness areas and its wondrous wildlife.

We are making a splash into the New Year with new plunge pools at Sala’s Camp. As of 1st December 2017, each one of our seven tents now enjoy private plunge pools with a spacious deck overlooking the Sand River and rolling hills of the northern Serengeti. Sala’s pool side paradise is the perfect place to unwind and relax after the excitement of your day’s game drive. Cool off with a refreshing cocktail and dip your toes whilst watching the wonders of the Masai Mara pass by.

Our visual Footprint for 2021 has just been released. Despite the challenging year, our Footprint foundation made a positive impact on Kenya’s people and wildlife in 2021.

The number of giraffes across the continent has fallen by 40% in the last three decades. The Rothschild’s giraffes found in Kenya are particularly endangered with their populations having dropped by 80-90%. Our beautiful and charismatic giants here at the Manor are, sadly, much more endangered than elephants, rhinos and lions.

2020 has arrived, bringing new dreams, new paths and new promises. As we embark on our journey into a new decade, the climate crisis and the rate of technological developments bring some uncertainty. But one thing is certain: travel will continue to be highly prized as a way to spend quality time with loved ones, disconnect from busy lives and do something that feels good.

We are incredibly excited to welcome the New Year with a fresh, new look at Giraffe Manor. The manor’s two breakfast rooms (potentially the most photographed rooms this side of the Sahara) have had a bit of a ‘face-lift’ and are looking, if we do say so ourselves, picture perfect and more Insta-ready than ever. We know that for our guests, capturing the perfect, most unique Giraffe Manor moment has virtually become a cult-like quest so we thought we’d kick off 2018 by providing a new backdrop against which some of the world’s most fun photos are taken.

This Christmas, The Safari Collection wanted to use the power of song to bring together friends, family, past and future guests, however far away from one another we may be. So, with a little help from soloist Edna Ratemo, our very own team sang their hearts out. And, as it turns out, we have quite the in-house choir. Enjoy our festive version of ‘My Land is Kenya’.
