From One to Four: IUCN Redefines Giraffe Species

DSCF1680.jpg

Giraffes, once thought to be a single species, have now been formally recognised as four distinct species - northern, reticulated, Masai and southern giraffes - in a landmark announcement by the IUCN. This decision, driven by over a decade of research from the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) and partners, means conservation can now be tailored to the unique threats facing each species.

At Giraffe Manor, giraffe conservation has always been centre stage. From supporting the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife’s breeding and translocation programme for the endangered Nubian giraffe, to sponsoring giraffe conservation and monitoring projects and educating every guest who visits, The Safari Collection’s flagship property is deeply embedded in safeguarding these icons.

With four species now recognised, there are more reasons than ever to protect them, and Giraffe Manor remains the ultimate place to experience and support giraffe conservation first-hand.
