Zimbabwe hosts world premiere of UN 2027 Sustainable Tourism logo at Victoria Falls

Zimbabwe has taken a prominent role in global tourism governance after hosting the world premiere unveiling of the official logo for the International Year of Sustainable and Resilient Tourism 2027, launched at Victoria Falls during the 23rd UN Tourism Meeting of the Committee on Tourism and Sustainability (CTS). The logo, a dandelion rooted in place yet capable of dispersing ideas and partnerships beyond its base, was unveiled by UN Tourism Secretary General Shaikha Al Nuwais and will be formally adopted by the UN General Assembly as the symbol of the International Year, which was proclaimed in 2024. The two-day meeting, convened under the patronage of First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, has drawn high-level delegations from across the world to finalise the roadmap, governance arrangements, and implementation mechanisms for 2027.

Discussions at the CTS meeting have covered steering arrangements for the International Year, the establishment of National Committees in member states, regenerative tourism policy, and the planning of flagship global events. Al Nuwais used the platform to caution that despite global arrivals growing 4% last year to exceed 1.5 billion, the sector remains exposed to geopolitical and environmental shocks. "Sustainability and resilience are two sides of the same coin. A sector built only on growth, without foundations to absorb shocks, is built on sand," she said. For Zimbabwe, the hosting of the event represents a significant moment of international recognition, with Victoria Falls providing a backdrop that the UN Tourism Secretary General described as "nature's way of dancing."
