Turkish Airlines Eyes West Africa Growth with Planned Bissau Route
Turkish Airlines has announced plans to add Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, to its West Africa network, pending market conditions and operational availability. If launched, Bissau would become the Star Alliance member’s 20th destination in Central and West Africa, strengthening its regional footprint, which currently spans 19 cities across 15 countries.
The proposed service aims to improve regional and intercontinental connectivity, particularly between Bissau and key markets in Europe, the Middle East and Asia via the airline’s Istanbul hub. Guinea-Bissau’s current aviation offering is limited, with just over 3,400 weekly seats served by five international carriers. The move follows Turkish Airlines’ broader strategic expansion, including its pending €300 million minority acquisition of Spain’s Air Europa.
