Table Mountain National Park Closes Multiple Sites as Cape Town Storms Strike

SANParks has issued a temporary closure alert for key sections of the Table Mountain National Park today, 11 May 2026, as severe weather batters Cape Town and the surrounding Western Cape region. Among the sites closed to the public are Lion's Head Summit, Signal Hill Precinct, Cecilia Forest Trails, Constantia Nek Trails, Tokai Trails, Silvermine Gates, Oudekraal Picnic Site, and the Boulders Penguin Colony Forest Link Walkway, with funicular and shuttle services at the Cape of Good Hope also suspended. Park management teams are on the ground responding to multiple weather-related incidents including fallen trees, flooding, and structural damage.

Visitors and residents have been strongly urged to avoid unnecessary travel and hiking in affected areas and to exercise caution near rivers, streams, coastal zones, and low-lying sections of the park. Other parks within the SANParks Cape Region - including Agulhas, Bontebok, Tankwa Karoo, and West Coast National Parks - remain open but are on high alert as severe conditions persist across the province. The closures are a timely reminder of the operational risks extreme weather poses to tourism infrastructure, coming on the same day that Africa's Travel Indaba opens in Durban.
