Royal Malewane's Flagship Lodge Reopens After Extensive Refurbishment
Malewane Lodge, the flagship property of the Royal Malewane collection in South Africa's Greater Kruger National Park, has reopened following a comprehensive refurbishment. The lodge - a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and the first property developed by founders Liz and Phil Biden when it opened in 1999 - accommodates up to 20 guests across six Luxury Suites and two Royal Suites. Key upgrades to the Royal Suites include redesigned private courtyard entrances, revised layouts for improved guest flow and privacy, centralised fireplaces, underfloor heating, retiled heated pools, and a relocated service kitchen. The six Luxury Suites have also been refreshed with new entrance halls, updated outdoor decks, and retiled heated swimming pools.
Upgrades to the main lodge include an expanded boutique, a redesigned bar and observation lounge, a new coffee and juice bar, and a repositioned fire pit. The Royal Waters Spa has been redesigned with the addition of a sauna and cold plunge, while a new arrival pavilion has been completed at the Royal Malewane Airstrip. Royal Portfolio CEO Matt Biden said the refurbishment was designed to honour the lodge's 25-year heritage while introducing "the refined comforts and modern amenities today's travellers expect." The Royal Portfolio's broader collection includes The Silo Hotel in Cape Town, La Residence in Franschhoek, and Birkenhead House in Hermanus.
