OL Leisure showcases re-imagined Mokuti Etosha after N$260 million transformation
OL Leisure has officially unveiled the re-imagined Mokuti Etosha, marking the completion of a N$260 million transformation that has repositioned the property as one of Namibia's leading contemporary safari destinations.
The milestone was celebrated during the Mokuti Etosha Showcase on 3 July 2026, where the Right Honourable Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare, Prime Minister of the Republic of Namibia, representing Her Excellency Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia, officially commemorated the transformation during an evening event at Mokuti's iconic SkyBoma.
Guided by the philosophy of Africa Re-imagined, the transformation has redefined the guest experience from the ground up by celebrating Namibia's landscapes, cultures and heritage through contemporary design, personalised hospitality and thoughtfully curated experiences. Major enhancements include fully refurbished accommodation, reimagined public spaces, upgraded Junior Suites, the newly launched Ombala Presidential Suite, enhanced conferencing facilities, Leisure Chapter retail experience, and the inimitable SkyBoma, an elevated open-air dining experience beneath Etosha's spectacular night skies.
Speaking at the event, OL Group Executive Chairman Sven Thieme described the investment as a strong vote of confidence in Namibia's tourism industry.
"We believe Namibia is a premier global destination, and premier destinations deserve world-class products. Mokuti is that product."
Beyond the investment itself, the project delivered significant socio-economic benefits, creating employment for 115 people during construction, of whom 111 were Namibian, while supporting approximately 15 local suppliers. Mokuti Etosha is also expanding its permanent operational workforce from 120 to 136 employees, with a further 13 fixed-term positions created during the current financial year.
Delivering the keynote address, Prime Minister Dr Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare praised OL Leisure's continued investment in Namibia and highlighted the importance of maintaining momentum within the tourism sector.
"Tourism cannot be taken for granted. It requires continuous investment, effective marketing, quality service and supportive policy to remain competitive. What we see at Mokuti Etosha is what Namibian investment in Namibian tourism can look like at its very best."
The Prime Minister also commended Mokuti Etosha's commitment to celebrating and preserving the heritage of the Hai//om community, recognising indigenous cultures as an integral part of Namibia's tourism identity and an important contributor to the country's visitor experience.
Located just 40 metres from the Etosha Von Lindequist Gate, Mokuti Etosha offers a distinctive contemporary safari experience that blends authentic Namibian heritage with world-class hospitality, providing an exceptional base from which to explore one of Africa's most celebrated wildlife destinations.
