Nigeria and Brazil are set to establish direct flights following high-level talks between Nigerian Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo and Brazilian Ambassador Carlos Garcete, advancing a 2018 Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA).

The initiative, directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, follows discussions between Nigerian and Brazilian leaders in Addis Ababa this February. Ambassador Garcete suggested the potential for 4-5 flights weekly, pending finalisation of an Open Skies Agreement.

Minister Keyamo emphasised how the service would strengthen economic and cultural ties between the nations, noting their numerous similarities. The Ambassador highlighted the flights' potential to spark significant economic growth between the countries.

Two Nigerian carriers, Air Peace and Caverton, have been designated to operate the route. Both nations have agreed to establish committees to finalise new BASA arrangements, with the Brazilian Ambassador extending an invitation to Minister Keyamo to visit Brazil for the formal signing.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in Nigeria-Brazil relations, with the Nigerian aviation industry poised for enhanced growth and expanded international reach through this strategic partnership.
