Namibia launches convention bureau to drive MICE growth
Namibia has launched the Namibia Convention Bureau to grow business events and support economic diversification, Minister of Environment and Tourism Indileni Daniel announced on Tuesday, 16 December. The new office – a deliverable of the tourism recovery and national spatial tourism master plans – will coordinate bids and destination marketing to expand the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) sector. Government has also streamlined processes and introduced a MICE visa to ease entry for international delegates.
Daniel noted that Namibia hosted 36 international conferences over the past two years, including African Union meetings and the Global Africa Hydrogen Summit, injecting millions into the economy and supporting jobs. The bureau aligns with President Netumbo Nandi‑Ndaitwah’s target to create 500,000 jobs, with benefits spanning hospitality, transport, logistics, catering, technology and small businesses. She called on investors, venue owners, hotel developers and service providers to partner on conference facilities, accommodation capacity and event services, signalling Namibia’s intent to compete globally in business tourism.
