Maputo National Park reopens for safaris after weather closure
Maputo National Park in Mozambique has reopened guided visits, safaris and in‑park hospitality activities following a temporary suspension on 16 January 2026 caused by heavy rains and rising water levels at Xinguti Lagoon. Park management said internal roads have been rehabilitated and alternative routes opened, allowing the resumption of public and private safaris and operations at camps, lodges and hotels within the park.
Visitors are urged to follow posted guidance and staff instructions, with road maintenance continuing during the rainy season to ensure safe transit. The reopening restores access to one of southern Mozambique’s key wildlife areas – a positive development for operators and travellers planning itineraries around Maputo and the coast.
