Kruger to host 230 scientists for Savanna Science Network – 2 – 5 March
The 23rd Savanna Science Network Meeting will be held at Skukuza, Kruger National Park, from 2 – 5 March 2026, convening 230 delegates from all continents except Antarctica, including 127 from Africa. Coinciding with Kruger’s centenary, the programme will address critical savanna challenges and include a presentation on the January 2026 floods; all sessions will be live streamed on YouTube.
Topics span fire behaviour, vegetation and wildlife monitoring, population studies, aerial count strategies, technology and governance, and assessments of research effectiveness. Organisers say the close collaboration between scientists and park authorities supports evidence‑based decision‑making for protected area management – strengthening biodiversity outcomes, visitor safety and destination resilience across Southern Africa’s safari tourism landscape.
