Kenya has introduced reforms at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) aimed at enhancing passenger traffic and reducing waiting times. The initiative focuses on streamlining customs and immigration processes through advanced technology.

John Mbadi, Treasury Cabinet Secretary, said the changes will deliver more efficient services to arriving and departing passengers while strengthening Kenya's reputation as a welcoming destination. The reforms include increased transparency around customs duties and taxes.

JKIA, one of Kenya's three main entry points alongside Moi International Airport in Mombasa and Kisumu International Airport, handles the majority of tourist arrivals. In the first quarter of 2024, JKIA processed 343,555 of Kenya’s 409,164 tourist arrivals.

The government aims to establish JKIA as a world-class gateway and leading aviation hub through these technological improvements and service enhancements.
