Iconic KwaZulu-Natal Battle Site Lodge Heads to Auction
Isandlwana Lodge, one of KwaZulu-Natal's most historically significant hospitality properties, is set to go under the hammer on 25 March. The lodge, perched on the slopes of the Nyoni mountain overlooking the site of the 1879 Battle of Isandlwana, is being sold via Broll Auctions and Sales as its founding owner retires. Opened in 1999 by Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the fully operational luxury property accommodates up to 26 guests across 14 en-suite bedrooms and is being sold as a going concern, inclusive of a library, conferencing facility, gym, swimming pool, and a 12-seater game vehicle used for heritage tours.
The sale has already attracted both local and international interest, with Broll CEO Norman Raad describing it as "a rare convergence of tourism appeal, cultural significance, and income-generating potential." The lodge's unique architecture - shaped like a traditional Zulu shield and constructed from rock and thatch - and its roster of high-profile past guests, including President Jimmy Carter and King Goodwill Zwelithini, underscore its standing as a premium heritage asset.
