Mashatu Game Reserve in Botswana’s Northern Tuli recently introduced a new "Family Happy Hour" at Matebole Elephant Hide, allowing families with younger children (under 12) to experience this incredible photo hide where they can enjoy close-up wildlife sightings (particularly known for its steady stream of elephants) at eye level.

Families can now spend an hour-long session either after their morning game drive or before the afternoon drive, at a reduced rate of $35 per person. Rates are usually $90 per person for the morning or afternoon session which last around 3 - 4 hours, so this makes the experience a lot more affordable and family-friendly for little ones with shorter attention spans. Subject to availability and terms and restrictions apply.

PhotoMashatu even has mini tripods for mobile phones so the children can take their own photos and learn new skills such as making time lapses of the ellies coming and going to drink and mud bath.

Mashatu has also introduced three fabulous family-friendly offers for the upcoming October half-term and Christmas holidays, including free stays for up to two children under 16, sharing a room with their parents at Mashatu Lodge and Tuli Safari Lodge. For families preferring separate accommodations, children over 12 can stay in their own room at half the usual children’s rate.

Mashatu Tent Camp offers a more adventurous experience for children 12 and older, whilst Euphorbia caters for older teens from 16 up. Additionally, families can enjoy a luxurious stay in Mashatu's exclusive-use safari homes, which accommodate up to eight guests on a pay 2 stay 3 deal at Kolokolo or Shalimpo.

All these family promotions are available from October 16 to 31, 2024, as well as throughout December 2024 and January 2025. Normal commissions apply. Access is very easy via Johannesburg with flights direct into Limpopo Valley Airstrip in Mashatu from Lanseria or by road via Pont Drift.   Read their full family blog here.   Please note the photo hides do close over the rainy season ie 1 December to 1 March, but families will still be able to enjoy the usual activities at the lodges.
