Gondwana Collection Namibia and Police Unit Join Forces to Strengthen Tourist Safety

Gondwana Collection Namibia is collaborating with the Namibian Police's Tourism Protection Unit to bolster visitor safety at the point of arrival in the country. Chief Inspector Christina van-Dunem da Fonsech, who heads the newly established unit, recently visited Gondwana's Namibia2Go car rental depot at Hosea Kutako International Airport to explore how tourism operators and law enforcement can work together to deliver practical safety guidance to arriving travellers. Central to the initiative is the 'Gondwana Traveller Passport', a compact booklet covering road awareness, personal safety and general travel tips, which van-Dunem da Fonsech has begun distributing directly to visitors at the airport.

The Tourism Protection Unit was established to proactively support Namibia's tourism industry through dedicated law enforcement engagement. Beyond the airport, the unit conducts regular patrols in and around Windhoek, including evening drives, and officers assist tourists with directions and safe passage where needed. Discussions are also underway regarding the potential establishment of accessible tourism protection offices where travellers can seek assistance during their stay. The initiative reflects a broader industry recognition that visitor safety is a shared responsibility among authorities, operators and local communities - and forms part of ongoing efforts to protect Namibia's standing as a leading African travel destination.
