Ghana Plans Second Paragliding Site in Volta Region by 2027

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced plans to develop a paragliding site in Adaklu, Volta Region, as part of a wider push to expand the country's adventure tourism offering beyond its current base in the Eastern Region. GTA Chief Executive Maame Efua Houadjeto made the announcement at the opening of the 2026 Kwahu Easter Paragliding Festival at Odweanoma Mountain, stating that aviation experts are currently assessing the Adaklu ridges for wind conditions, terrain suitability, and takeoff and landing zones. If feasibility studies prove successful, the site is expected to be operational by 2027, with the GTA targeting two annual paragliding festivals - one in Kwahu and one in Adaklu.

The Adaklu initiative forms part of the GTA's broader "360 Tourism" agenda, which aims to drive consistent tourism activity throughout the year rather than concentrating on peak seasons. Alongside the new site, the authority plans to launch a graduate tour guide programme, equipping trained guides with vehicles to improve access to remote heritage and tourism sites. Together, the investments in infrastructure and human capacity are intended to boost local economies, create jobs in hospitality and services, and strengthen Ghana's competitiveness as a destination for both domestic and international travellers.
