Ghana Launches Digital Health Platform to Support International Travellers

Ghana launched Navala Travel Health on 14 August 2026, a digital platform connecting international travellers with licensed healthcare providers, hospitals and pharmacies through telemedicine, in-person care, emergency coordination and medical concierge services. The platform was unveiled by Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Ablah Dzifa Gomashie at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra, with the African Medical Tourism Council named as a key partner. The launch comes as Ghana recorded more than 1.3 million international tourist arrivals and US$4.34 billion in tourism's contribution to GDP in 2025.

Navala's service model - branded "Healthcare Without Borders" - allows travellers to create a secure health profile before departure, access 24/7 virtual consultations with licensed professionals, and receive concierge support for specialist referrals, prescriptions and emergency coordination. The African Medical Tourism Council, which currently brings together 10 major hospitals primarily in Accra, will provide a quality-assurance layer across the provider network and is developing a complementary specialist-access platform that will integrate with Navala's system. The initiative positions Ghana as a coordinated healthcare destination for leisure, business, cultural and medical travellers, including patients arriving from across West Africa for specialist treatment.
