In honour of Mandela Day on 18 July, City Lodge Hotels engaged in various charitable initiatives across its 59 hotels, making giving back easy. Teams supported national and regional charities through recycling and upcycling projects, showcasing their commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Highlights included:

  • East Rand hotels assisted Johannesburg Children’s Home by deep cleaning, painting, and donating food.
  • Sandton hotels supported Ikholwa Hope Children Home with essential maintenance.
  • Pretoria hotels prepared soup for Rose Happy Times Elderly Home and treated Aruka Foundation children to cupcakes and juice.
  • Umhlanga hotels collaborated with Reach for a Dream Foundation and Chefs With Compassion’s #67000L Soup Drive.
  • The George team joined 145 volunteers to pack meals for Rise Against Hunger.
  • Cape Town staff treated farm workers’ children to lunch, fun activities, and handed over school supplies.

Cape Town also featured the handover of upcycled school shirts made from retired hotel linen and new bars of soap created from used hotel soap and shampoo bars, a process developed by Bruce Turner of TBAC.

Lindiwe Sangweni-Siddo, COO at City Lodge Hotels, expressed gratitude, highlighting the group’s dedication to making a difference and embracing Mandela’s ethos: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others.”
