Cape Winelands Airport Set to Become Cape Town’s Second International Hub

Cape Winelands Airport, located 13 km northeast of Durbanville, is on track to become Cape Town’s second international airport, following the announcement of a R7–10 billion redevelopment plan. Privately owned by RSA.Aero, the airport is currently a general aviation facility and flight training site. The project includes runway upgrades, a new terminal, cargo facilities, hangars, hotels, and sustainable aviation infrastructure, with construction expected to begin in 2026 and the first phase operational by 2028.

With ambitions to ease congestion at Cape Town International and attract global traffic, the initiative aims to boost tourism, agri-business, and logistics in the Western Cape. Cape Winelands Airport is actively engaging with investors and international airline partners, having recently presented at the South African Tourism Investment Summit and Routes World 2025 in Hong Kong. If realised, the project would mirror the success of Lanseria and Kruger-Mpumalanga Airports and play a transformative role in the region’s economic and tourism sectors.
