CAA Calls for Greater Aviation Connectivity Across Africa Following ICAO Symposium
Zambia's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has called for strengthened aviation connectivity and accelerated capacity building across Africa following the conclusion of the ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2026. Speaking at the close of the three-day gathering, CAA Director General Captain Derrick Luembe stated that Africa remains insufficiently connected, emphasising the need for enhanced training frameworks, strategic partnerships, and knowledge exchange to support sustainable aviation development on the continent. The symposium brought together 1,450 participants from 101 states, focusing on safety, security, sustainability, and improved connectivity.
On the sidelines of the event, Captain Luembe commended the Southern Africa Institute of Aviation Science and Technology Limited (SAIAST) for attaining Bronze Membership under the ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Programme, describing it as an important milestone in raising aviation training standards in Zambia. ICAO Council President Toshiyuki Onuma echoed the call for action, urging that commitments be translated into measurable outcomes and stressing the importance of sustained investment in global aviation performance. The symposium concluded with renewed international commitment to improving safety, institutional capacity, and connectivity through continued collaboration.
