Because family time is the most precious time there is, Morukuru Family happily welcomes families with children of all ages. Children of all ages can also join on game drives. Safari lovers (couples, groups of friends, families) will enjoy Morukuru Family Madikwe, which consists of three exclusive-use safari houses: 2-bedroom Morukuru Owner's House, 3-bedroom Morukuru River House and 5-bedroom Morukuru Farm House. All three houses operate off-grid (solar power) and are situated in a private concession inside the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve.
In Sandton, Johannesburg, just a short walk from Nelson Mandela Square and 30 minutes from OR Tambo International Airport, we offer the 9-bedroom AtholPlace House and the 4-bedroom AtholPlace Villa, both peaceful exclusive-use retreats from which to explore a fascinating city.
In De Hoop Nature Reserve (just over 3 hours from Cape Town) we offer the 5-suite Morukuru Beach Lodge, ideal for couples and small families, as well as the 4-bedroom exclusive-use Morukuru Ocean House, which is perfect for (multi-generation) family travel. Both properties are off-grid completely (solar power) and offer some of the best land-based whale watching on the continent (July-November), as well as many other outdoor activities including fynbos walks, marine walks, mountainbiking, snorkelling, sandboarding and nature drives.
The exclusive-use houses in Madikwe Game Reserve and De Hoop Nature Reserve are fully staffed and inclusive of all activities (private), all meals, all drinks, as well as a private vehicle. At Morukuru Beach Lodge activities are shared with the other guests.

In celebration of World Sea Turtle Day on 16 June, the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation’s Turtle Conservation Centre, with the support of Morukuru Family De Hoop and Morukuru Goodwill Foundation, are excited to announce the selection of De Hoop Marine Protected Area (MPA) of the De Hoop Nature Reserve as the latest release site for rehabilitated turtles.
In 2014, Morukuru Family acquired AtholPlace Boutique Hotel in the upmarket suburb of Sandton in Johannesburg. The stylish boutique hotel was renovated and a new 4-bedroom villa was added, before re-opening in 2015 as AtholPlace Hotel & Villa. Over the years we welcomed many happy guests, including some Royals even.

In the spirit of ‘Operation Phoenix’ – the original wildlife reintroduction and monitoring project in Madikwe Game Reserve from 1992 to 1999 – the owners of Morukuru Family launched the Morukuru Goodwill Foundation. Besides community support this initiative has supported Parks Board projects such as wildlife collaring, darting, monitoring and relocation initiatives for over a decade, securing a sustainable future for the reserve.
Our local partnership with Molatedi Village just outside Madikwe Game Reserve is responsible for many vibrant initiatives which benefit the community, including the Molatedi school and Mfoloe Learning Centre. In De Hoop Nature Reserve we have been supporting Cape Nature since 2010, as well as Ouplaas Primary, Elim House and Nuwerus Nasorg. In Johannesburg we support Village Safe Haven and Hearts of Hope.
