Morukuru Family Madikwe Property Closures Due to Heavy Rains

At Morukuru Family, the safety and well-being of our guests and team are always our top priority. We wish to share an important update following an unprecedented period of heavy rainfall in the North, which has significantly impacted Madikwe Game Reserve and surrounding areas.

The annual rainfall in Madikwe Game Reserve since last year has exceeded 1300mm —more than double a typical good rainy season. In February alone heavy rains, exceeding 400mm, have led to the Molatedi Dam overflowing, significantly increasing water levels in the Marico River.

As a result, on the evening of 20 February, Morukuru Owner’s House and Morukuru River House were flooded as water levels rose.

We are relieved to confirm that all our staff are safe, and no guests were staying at the properties at the time. However, due to the flooding, substantial material damage is expected – we will conduct a full assessment once conditions allow.

Both Morukuru Owner’s House and Morukuru River House will remain closed until further notice.

Our reservations team is in the process of reaching out individually to affected travel partners and guests.

We are pleased to confirm that Morukuru Farm House remains unaffected and fully operational.

We appreciate your support and understanding as we navigate this situation, and we will continue to keep you updated.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team directly.
