Serena Hotels and Born Free are delighted to be working together again – this time hosting award-winning writer and illustrator Ed Vere at Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge for a couple of weeks.  Ed will be hosting two watercolour workshops for guests this week, sharing his expertise on ‘How to paint an elephant’.  Ed will showcase some sketch work from his time in Amboseli so far as well as demonstrate how he draws and paints in the wild (check out this great video for a sneaky peek).  Aspiring artists at the lodge will enjoy his guidance on their own watercolour painting techniques.

Zanzibar Serena Hotel partnered with the Zanzibar Outreach Program to offer complimentary ear surgery to at least 30 children with hearing problems. The surgeries were conducted at Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar between 8th- 12th December and marks 9 years since the partnership began in 2009.The ear surgeries are aimed at creating awareness for hearing problems within the ear, nose and throat anatomy. Serena Hotels and Mettle Solar OFGEN have officially opened “Kenya’s First Fully Solar powered Lodge”. Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge located in Tsavo West National Park implemented a fully-fledged solar power plant to provide for its entire power requirements and enhance environmental sustainability. The solar power plant is installed under a lease arrangement and produces 307kWp utilizing SMA Solar offgrid technology with 670kWh of usable lead acid battery storage, with the capacity to supply Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge’s total energy requirements during normal weather conditions.

Residents and tourists along Serena beach in Mombasa were treated to a rare occurrence after a turtle came out of the water to lay eggs during the day.Kenya Wildlife officers who were on patrol controlled movement around the nest as they enhanced security where the turtle laid its eggs. Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa, Uganda is set to complete the second 9 holes to make it an 18-hole golf course by October 2018. This one of a kind golf course in Uganda has been designed by Golf Plan USA under the guidance of the Principal Architect - Kevin Ramsey and boasts of sweeping views of Lake Victoria. Its unique features include a finishing hole with an Island green and is the first golf course in Uganda to have bent grass.
