Zimbabwe Plans Major Airport Upgrades to Bolster Tourism and Investment
Zimbabwe is moving ahead with plans to modernise its air transport infrastructure, with Transport Minister Felix Mhona announcing upgrades to key airports aimed at improving connectivity and attracting tourism and investment. Speaking at the Africa Infrastructure and Built Environment Conference and Expo (AfriConfex) in Bulawayo, Mhona outlined priority projects, including the expansion of Charles Prince Airport in Harare and the development of new airports in Mutare and Kariba.
The government’s strategy builds on recent improvements, including the completion of a new terminal at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in 2023. Mhona noted that enhanced airport capacity has already led to growth in the aviation sector and stronger international interest. However, he emphasised the need for continued investment in sustainable infrastructure to support market access and broaden economic opportunities, particularly in under-served regions.
