Cape Town is about to launch its first amphibious ‘Waterfront Duck’ bus, blending land and sea tourism. The innovative vehicle, conceived by Keith Lindsay, will serve as both a bus and a boat, offering tours around the iconic Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.

Inspired by similar tours in Boston, Lindsay, a former marketing professional, envisioned this project in 2008. The ‘Waterfront Duck’ will start operations after overcoming numerous regulatory hurdles and gaining approvals from both maritime and road authorities. Custom-built in the UK, the vehicle boasts state-of-the-art safety features for its dual function.

The tours will highlight the history and marine ecology of the area, remaining within the harbour walls. If successful, Lindsay plans to expand the fleet, enhancing Cape Town’s tourism landscape with this unique attraction.

The official launch is set for 31 July, potentially preceded by a soft opening. This ambitious project is poised to become a permanent, iconic activity for both locals and tourists in Cape Town.
