UK lifts travel warning for Uganda parks
The UK has removed its advice against all but essential travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park, the area immediately south‑west of Kasese, and Semuliki National Park, effective 2 December. The decision ends more than two years of restrictions introduced after an October 2023 attack, and has been welcomed by Uganda’s tourism sector.
Industry leaders expect a rebound from steep booking declines – with some operators reporting up to a 70% drop in UK arrivals to the affected parks – as confidence returns in a key long‑haul source market. Tourism contributed about $1.28 billion to Uganda’s economy in 2024 and supports over 800,000 jobs; analysts say renewed UK travel could accelerate recovery in arrivals and revenue, provided security remains stable and ongoing product diversification and marketing continue.
