Uganda Fast-Tracks Entebbe Airport Expansion to Boost Regional Connectivity

Uganda is accelerating the final phase of its $325 million (UGX 1.235 trillion) Entebbe International Airport expansion, aimed at transforming the country’s main aviation gateway into a modern regional hub. The upgrade includes expanded terminals, improved baggage systems, and increased passenger handling capacity—key to accommodating rising international travel and tourism volumes. The first phase, worth $200 million, has been completed, with the second phase now underway at a cost of $125 million, following delays largely linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, the project aligns with the country’s Vision 2040 strategy focused on infrastructure-led development. In addition to terminal upgrades, the expansion will introduce a new airport entrance, enhanced traffic flow, and a proposed headquarters for Uganda Airlines. Once completed, the airport is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency and offer a smoother experience for both business and leisure travellers across the region.
