EAC Launches 10-Year Tourism Strategy to Unify Regional Marketing

The East African Community has adopted a 10-year tourism marketing strategy, running from 2027 to 2036, to position the region as a single unified destination for international travellers. Approved yesterday by tourism and wildlife ministers at the 13th Sectoral Council on Tourism and Wildlife Management in Arusha, Tanzania, the strategy will operate under the regional brand "Visit East Africa: Feel the Vibe," using digital marketing, strategic partnerships and cross-border tourism packages to promote the region's natural attractions and cultural heritage.

The EAC plans to leverage the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations - co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania - to drive international arrivals and encourage travel across all eight partner states. Key priorities include harmonising tourism standards, advancing the Single Tourist Visa and strengthening conservation across shared ecosystems such as Kidepo, Mount Elgon, Kagera and Virunga. Uganda has also offered to host the fourth EAC Regional Tourism Expo in May 2027, to be held alongside the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo and incorporating AFCON promotional activities. The EAC Secretariat has been directed to circulate an updated Single Tourist Visa study by 20 October, with member state submissions due by 30 November.
