Uganda and Kenya Sign Three MoUs at Mombasa Tourism Summi
Uganda and Kenya have formalised three cross-border agreements on tourism, trade and investment at the fifth Uganda - Kenya Coast Tourism and Innovation Summit, held at the Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa on 26 and 27 October 2026. The memoranda of understanding were signed between the Association of Uganda Tour Operators and the Kenya Association of Tour Operators, the Uganda Association of Travel Agents and its Kenyan counterpart, and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda and the Mombasa chapter of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Organisers described the signings as a deliberate shift from tourism promotion towards policy action and measurable outcomes.
The summit, convened by Uganda's Consulate General in Mombasa, also set targets including at least two digital tourism prototypes ready for commercial backing and at least ten new business-to-business links between operators in both countries, with progress to be tracked over three months. A joint government declaration is expected to be submitted to the East African Community Secretariat, with a communiqué detailing institutional commitments due within two weeks. The agreements come against a backdrop of rising bilateral travel - Kenyan arrivals in Uganda grew from 466,902 in 2024 to 519,041 in 2025, while Uganda ranked among Kenya's largest source markets with 234,556 arrivals last year. Both countries are also eyeing the co-hosted 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, alongside Tanzania, as a further catalyst for regional visitor growth.
