South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced major upgrades to accommodation facilities in the |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park, a remote desert reserve straddling South Africa and Namibia. The month-long project, scheduled for July 2024, focuses on chalets at Sendelingsdrift Rest Camp and Gannakouriep Wilderness Camp.

Sendelingsdrift, designed like a mining camp, serves as the main entry point to the South African side and offers ten chalets and camping areas. The more isolated Gannakouriep, accessible only by 4x4 vehicles, features four chalets.

SANParks assures visitors that the works will not affect booked accommodation. The improvements aim to enhance visitor experience in this unique cross-border conservation area, known for its stark beauty and cultural significance to local communities.
