The Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) has launched a new code of conduct and ethics for safari guides, aimed at elevating professional standards in the country's booming tourism industry.

Tanzania, located in East Africa, is renowned for its wildlife safaris, featuring attractions such as the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The country is a premier destination for observing the Big Five and annual wildebeest migration.

The new guidelines cover seven key areas, including professionalism, environmental impact, and cultural sensitivity. They aim to enhance the quality of safari experiences while promoting sustainable tourism practices.

TATO, representing over 300 members and 78.4% of licensed tour operators in Tanzania, developed the code in collaboration with various stakeholders. The association hopes the initiative will be adopted by national parks, conservation authorities, and other key players in the tourism sector.

This move comes as Tanzania continues to position itself as a leading global safari destination, balancing tourism growth with conservation efforts and community engagement.
